In the autumn of 2021 we visited the Waterford Fair, which celebrates both the history of this 18th-century milling village and the work of local artisans.
You should definitely do it, Amanda. It was surprisingly easy. I cleaned my remaining gourds over the weekend. I had lofty ideas about using paints for a more artistic and decorative looks, but have decided to go with the natural varnish again. More out of laziness than anything else. But I envision great things when your talents are put to use.
That is such a cool project, Laura. I am going to show my daughter and Scout. I could see them getting into gourd birdhouses...You'll have to let us know what kinds of birds want gourd homes.
Beth, I was skeptical at first because I didn't believe we'd actually end up with dried-out, birdhouse-worthy gourds. That alone was a pleasant surprise and finishing them was fun.
I wonder the same thing, Tui. I don't even know if we have them in the most attractive spot from a bird's POV. Last year we hung wren houses that were ignored, and the bluebird boxes seemed to attract sparrows as well. So who knows, really?!
Wow! They came out great! Can't wait to see who moves in!
And that reminds me – I bought two birdhouses a year ago and still haven't figured out where to hang them in the garden. That might be a task for this afternoon.
Thanks a lot Carol!
Oh gosh, I’d never heard of gourd birdhouses and now I’m really interested and inspired. I need to have a go at this myself. I may be some time ...

Right, I’m on it! Just need to grow some first!
Love these, they’re awesome!!
These are gorgeous. I'm intrigued!
You should give it a try, Delores!

Cool!
Thanks Gayle!
They're wonderful! I hope the boids think so too. Wonder who they will attract?

Thanks Boaz. I hope you find a nice spot for your new birdhouses. There are always so many tasks competing for our attention aren't there?
